4 x 2-hours sessions

We will cover every technique based on working with a lino or wood as a matrix. (Does not include lino mats, wood, and printing paper).

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

1- Understanding the difference between relief, intaglio & planography.
2- Achieving the use of tonal value to produce volume.
3- Processes involved in printing from the lino mat and wood.
4- Understanding inks, matrices & supports.
5- History of printmaking & art as a multiple.
6- Safety procedures for using tools and chemichals.

Lithography

120USD
4 x 2-hours sessions

Based on the concept that water repels oil, a stone is used as a matrix to produce prints. (Does not include printing paper).

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

1- Understanding planography and the oil/water repulsion.
2- Materials and techniques for drawing on the stone.
3- Achieving the use of tonal value to produce volume.
4- Processes involved in printing from the stone.
5- Understanding inks, modifiers and gum layer.
6- Preparing the stone pre and post work.
5- Safety procedures for using tools and chemichals.

Silkscreen Printmaking

120USD
1 Day Workshop (6 to 8 hours) Summer Only

Learn everything there is to know about silkscreen from preparing the image, making the screen, and printing on paper techniques. Does not include materials.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

1- Understanding the principles of silkscreen printing.
2- Materials and techniques for creating the screen.
3- Preparing the file for printing a negative.
4- Processes involved preparing a screen (emulsion burning and developing).
5- Understanding inks, modifiers materials that can be printed on.
6- Safety procedures for using tools and chemichals.

Photography

Large Format Photography

150USD
4 x 2-hours sessions

In this workshop, we will cover large format photography using a Sinar F 4×5 camera. Understand all of the movements involved in view cameras (such as tilt/shift) and learn below extension exposure compensation. You will have the opportunity to make one portrait and one still life in studio ambient using artificial light. We will cover the processing of sheet film (in black & white) as well as making contact prints from the negatives obtained. This workshop INCLUDES ALL OF THE MATERIALS necessary for each participant to make 2 photos.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

1- Large format film anatomy.
2- View camera movements.
3- Exposure metering for artificial light.
4- Bellow extension exposure compensation.
5- Developing sheet film.
6- Making contact prints from your 4×5 negatives.

Color development & c-prints

80USD
4 x 2-hours sessions

With the experience and knowledge that was built so far, we learn how to adapt it for color film. We also develop our films and make color enlargements, technically known as c-prints. (Does not include film. Chemistry and paper are pay-per-use).

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

1- Understanding tonal value in color.
2- Understanding saturation and color balance.
3- Developing film using C-41.
4- Making C-prints.
5- Using processing machines.

Cyanotype Photography

45USD
2 x 2-hours sessions

In this 2-day workshop, we will cover one of oldest forms of photography.  You will have the opportunity to explore this tecquine through the production of 3 postcard sized prints.  We will cover every process from making your own emulsion to the different ways to “develop” your prints. This workshop INCLUDES ALL OF THE MATERIALS necessary for each participant to make 3 postcard sized prints.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

1- Experiment with preparing cyanotype emulsion from scratch.
2- Explore suitable supports and how to coat them.
3- Explore different ways to expose.
4- Understand different development techniques.
5- Understand preservation and exhibiting.
6- Understand brief history of cyanotypes.

Mordançage

75USD
2 x 2-hours sessions

This technique allows for the chemical etching and emulsion lifting on traditional photographic prints.  Participants will have the opportunity to make their own enlargements and learn how to produce this effect that looks like floating veils. This workshop INCLUDES ALL OF THE MATERIALS necessary for each participant to make 3 postcard sized prints.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

1- Explore the preparation of chemistry.
2- Understand the history behind this process.
3- Explore how to print for mordançage.
4- Create unique photos using the technique.
5- Understand Preservation and exhibiting.
